  • Can a motorised palm oil extractor be used to extract Palm oil?
  • The PV was not detected for both methods. A motorised palm oil extractor produced oil of higher uality and had higher performance efficiencies as compared to the manual vertical press. The novelty of this work was in producing an efficient euipment that is affordable to a smallholder farmer which extracts palm oil of high quality.
  • Which method of oil extraction is used in Buwama-Uganda?
  • Traditional method of oil extraction used in Buwama-Uganda: (a) manual vertical press with digested oil palm fruits ready for extraction and (b) workers extracting oil manually. Figure 2. Commonly used presses for oil extraction: (a) spindle press, (b) hydraulic press and (c) combined screw and hydraulic press (Poku, 2002).
  • Can a screw press extract Palm oil?
  • The objective of this work was to design and construct a low scale motorised extractor to efectively extract palm oil at an afordable price while maintaining quality, thus the screw press principle was adopted in designing and constructing a palm oil extractor to efectively extract palm oil from the digested palm fruits.
  • Does the semi-mechanised method of oil extraction affect the final oil product?
  • The method of extraction therefore did not have an efect on the PV of the final oil product. Results from this study indicated that the semi-mechanised method of oil extraction had greater eficiencies in terms of oil yield, oil extraction eficiency and material discharge eficiency in comparison to the traditional extraction method.
