Refined castor oil is collected from the local market in Chennai, India. Alkaline transesterification is used to prepare biodiesel from castor oil, as the amount of free fatty acids (FFA) in the oil is less than 2%. Prior to the biodiesel production, raw castor oil is heated to 80 °C in an air oven for 2 h to remove any moisture from the oil.
